After we moved to Arkansas we were soon surrounded with kind generous neighbors who helped us acclimate to our new circumstance. There were countless examples of neighbors helping out but making sure that they did intrude — a refreshing change from prior experiences.
What we soon discovered was…
- Red Neck humor is sort of a local custom. In Minnesota, the notion of Ole and Lina jokes and similar self depreciating ‘Scandoovhian humor’ is part of the social fabric and culture. In Arkansas, the same notion applies to ‘Redneck’ humor.
- The entire state has only three million people — a population less than most metropolitan cities. Consequently, everything is different because there is a smaller population. This leads to instances of rural isolation which in turn gives rise to the stereotypical ‘Arkansas hillbilly’ view.
With that as a background the following pages contain some of the Redneck self depreciating humor that pokes fun at the typical Arkansasan stereotype.
It is offered with tongue in cheek and is not intended to offend anyone.
Some of the references are a little off-color. Don’t look if you will be offended.
